What have you improved on as a writer?

From last year, I would say I have come to realize my ideas have become a bit more simplistic. Sometimes, my thoughts would run so much on a page that at one point I just needed to sit back, relax, and actually think for a moment. My creativity has stayed the same throughout, however I feel that I can easily mix totally opposite things into my poems, stories, and etc. I have come to explore as a writer and as a person how to venture more into the arts of literature and how that reflects into my life. I have come to realize that as I grow up, my mindset and knowledge begins to change. I wouldn’t call myself “mature” but I felt it was a bit more difficult to write my poems and stories because this time I feel I have actually put in my thoughts. My GUMPS have been and still is an issue as I tend to rush things over. My ideas tend to be my big “Ahas!” into my writing but I feel like it can be all over the place at times. Overall, I still am improving and being the best I can be as a writer.

How would you explain your voice? What is stylistic of you?

My style is very free flow, and always has been since last year. I try to add as much depth into my writing, however I wouldn’t say my ideas are connected. Sometimes, my ideas will run everywhere that it gets difficult what my pieces might be trying to convey. I am simple, but  try to make detailed and interesting towards other people reading it. I feel that I want to convey my writing with deeper messages then just “a sweet fairy-tale” because there is so much more behind it. I feel it’s just myself that wants to take a dark turn towards everything. I felt that if my pieces were to constantly looked at as being lighthearted, people will tend to lose interest because of the lack of reality that takes into play.

As a mentor writer, what advice would you give to future creative writers? Future goals and plans regarding writing?

KEEP WRITING AND READING! I feel this is a basic concept that is thrown because when people especially ask “How do I improve my English?”, just read and write! Constantly! As difficult it may sound, you begin to understand the problems that are conveyed towards your own writing because you are presented with excellent pieces of literature. Challenge yourself! Be able to interpret different stories, anecdotes, poems, etc. with a new pair of lenses. Give yourself sometime to be able to think critically when it comes to analyzing pictures. What is this picture actually trying to convey? Why is it shaped like that? Why is the photograph taken like this?

For future goals, I really don’t have that much plans with English besides using it for my post secondary course. However, I hope that my creativity is never lost because I want to continue to write these pieces for myself and for others. It would also help to sort out the emotions I feel, and the best way to do that is to write. Even if you might feel shy or embarrassed to write it in front of other people, it’s okay because you don’t have to show it towards other people. It’s something you are entrusted with and is nobody’s business. I just hope when I do continue to write in the future, I will see a change in my writing that will allow me to get in sync with my feelings.
